Fiacaill a Coire Cas

Adopted by Sarah.

A relatively short and quick route onto the Cairngorm Plateau on a well constructed path. A popular route to climb the busy Cairngorm, this also provides the easiest route down to Loch A’an via Coire Raibeirt, further afield to Beinn Mheadhoin and Derry Cairngorm or across the plateau to Ben MacDui. It’s also a good option for descent from the plateau and a useful escape route should the weather close in.

To access the start of the Fiacaill a Coire Cas route, follow either side of the well way-marked Lower Cas Loop through the ski area until the top “zig-zag” . The Fiacaill a Coire Cas branches off South starting with about 25 meters of steep granite steps then flattening out and gently ascending across the floor of the corrie. Looking back gives stunning views of the Rothiemurchus Forrest and Loch Morlich. The path then steepens up the Fiacaill a Coire Cas Ridge itself giving views of the steep crags of the Northern Corries. After a short steep climb the path tops out on the Cairngorm Plateau at 1141 meters. Here 3 clear paths then branch off to Cairngorm summit, down Coire Raibeirt or across the rim of the Northern Corries towards Ben MacDui.
