Jocks Road

Adopted by Hugh

Jock’s Road is a well-known high-level route, linking Glen Doll to Braemar on Deeside that was popular with cattle rustlers and whisky smugglers! It is named after Jock Winter, a local shepherd who, in 1887 along with the Scottish Rights of Way Society, successfully challenged the landowner and established the route as a Right of Way.

Note: The access to Jock’s Road from Glen Doll remains closed due to storm damage. The alternative is the Dounalt Road (south side of upper White Water). Please check Forestry and Land Scotland website for any updates, or contact Glen Doll ranger base.
