Northern Coires Rim

Adopted by Tim

The Northern Coires Rim path skirts the northern edge of Cairngorm plateau, fringing on the top of the famous Northern Cories, whilst crossing over the 1215 m peak of Cairn Lochan. The views north towards the Rothiemurchus forest and Loch Morlich are truly stunning whilst the views in the opposite direction down into the steep scar of the Lairig Ghru and across the vast plateau to the south give an immense feeling of wilderness and isolation. The path here is important as it provides a safe descent route for climbers who emerge onto the plateau from the cliffs of the corries below. Being currently slightly obsessed with Munro bagging (and having already climbed Cairn Gorm) I chose this path to make sure I visited this spectacular side of the Cairngorm plateau, which I may have otherwise overlooked.
